Opportunities for Success
Many Brazilian students joined EAC in this decade when in 1982 EAC’s Brazilian Program was authorized by MEC (Ministério da Educação e Cultura). Students learnt Portuguese during school hours and Social Studies, Science and Math from 3:30 to 5pm.
At that time, enrollment was 153 students.
During the 80’s, EAC implemented a project that would transform the lives of many students: the Science Fair. The first Upper School Science Fair was held in 1984 in a classroom with only 6 projects and a few students involved. It would have been impossible to predict that from such humble beginnings that it would grow over the next 32 years to include so many students demonstrating such high-level creative thinking, researching diverse areas from statistics to health and human behavior to robotics, and receiving many awards at the INTEL-ISEF (International Science and Engineering Fair), the biggest and most important high school-level science fair in the world.
